Strategic Tips for International Marketers

Are you building your market strategy?

Then you already know that choosing the right target segment is the most critical foundation of your marketing plan.

Have you precisely segmented your target market?

Is your primary focus Saudi Arabia’s youth demographic?

Well, let me break down the opportunity for you:

Saudi Arabia features one of the youngest populations in the G20, with roughly two-thirds of Saudi nationals falling under the age of 35, representing the core purchasing power in the Kingdom (General Authority for Statistics - GASTAT).

Five Saudi coworkers review charts and wireframes around a laptop in a bright modern office with city views.

However, before you launch, here is the catch: winning over this digitally native generation requires far more than a standard global playbook.

The Four Core Values

to build your strategy around:

1

"Glocal" Pride & Local Heritage

Saudi youth are tapped into global trends, but they are also deeply proud of their roots and the country's rapid progress. They can spot a copy-pasted Western ad from a mile away, a misstep I caution against in my blueprint Don't Be an Outsider. To earn their attention, tell authentic stories that respect local

culture and fit their actual daily lives.

2

Experiences Over Just Buying Stuff

With the boom in local concerts, sports, and tourism, young Saudis prioritize memorable experiences over simply owning products. Focus your messaging on the lifestyle, community, and moments your brand unlocks, not just a list of product features.

3

Fast, Frictionless Checkout

In my own research on local consumer behavior, payment friction is one of the fastest ways to lose a customer. Smartphones are ubiquitous, and almost everyone in my network relies on Apple Pay, Mada, or STC Pay for daily transactions, a trend backed by Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) data showing that electronic payments accounted for over 70% of total retail transactions in the Kingdom, driven heavily by Gen Z and Millennial buyers.

In such a high-speed digital market, complex checkout flows or slow loading times frequently lead to cart abandonment.

4

Real People Over Glossy Ads

As creator-economy expert Julio Ramos notes in his analysis of Gen Z engagement:

"Gen Z doesn't buy products from corporate megaphones—they buy access to communities recommended by peers they trust."

Traditional corporate ads and mega-celebrity promos no longer carry the weight they once did; young consumers lean heavily on authentic, relatable peer recommendations.

As Saudi Arabia continues its rapid transformation, its youth are setting the pace for brand success in the region. Meeting them on their terms today is the smartest investment for your brand's future here.
