A Masterclass in Cultural Connection with Saudi Customers

While women driving was routine to the rest of the world, in Saudi Arabia it was a historic milestone celebrated across the nation. And while this shift presented an opportunity for automotive companies, it was Coca-Cola -a fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) brand- that stepped in and found a way to connect with Saudi women during this pivotal moment in their lives.
By acknowledging this cultural shift, Coca-Cola reminded local consumers that their brand values revolve around the community's evolving journey.
Omar Bennis, Coca-Cola’s Public Affairs Director for the Middle East, highlighted the campaign's core intent in an interview with SBS News:
"The campaign was designed to celebrate a legacy of positive social and cultural change through a timely and topical message."
As a Saudi woman, what made this ad stand out was its cultural nuance. Featuring a supportive father as the teacher was a clever, reassuring touch that spoke directly to our honored local family structures. On a practical level, it also tapped into a very real sensory truth: driving in our climate requires a cold beverage to cool down.
To this day, every time I get behind the wheel, that emotional connection remains. Coca-Cola proved that when brands look beyond traditional promotion to genuinely connect and motivate -two of the five primary goals of marketing communication- they build lasting brand equity.
